Man. Those holes and lines directing the wind.
The GTB name is okay, but why 488?

488 > 458

It´s a reference to the 308GTB...At this point they´re just making up numbers.

Yeah, it's only a 3.9 liter displacement.

That front end looks so much better than the 458´s mustache or the 458 speciales mouth brace. But I´m kinda dissapointed. It seems Ferrari has taken the Audi route of designing. This feels more of a facelift than a whole new model (a la 430 -> 458).
It has a lapotime of 1:23 around Fiorano, which is exactly as fast as the F12 Berlinetta... Thats crazy fast.
Also, whoever bought the 458 Speciale is going to hate himself. The 488 is faster around Fiorano, has more horsepower, is prettier....

The turbo is being held by a pivot. Forward thinking.

The last honest-car-naming manufacturer goes the way of Mercedes and BMW with badge inflation. There would've been nothing wrong with calling it the 390TT.
Separately, TTs into a small displacement V8 should make for a torque curve unlike most other Ferraris. I know they'll muffle that flat-plane scream, but they should be a great complement.
A trend of V8s with quick-spooling twin turbos would be fantastic. 4.0TT in the E/C63 AMG, 4.0TT in something 3-series sized, and 4.2TT from Audi as the next RS4/5 would be an awesome world...

It looks too exaggerated. The 458 was classy, but this looks like its trying too hard. 458 for me please!

They finally fixed the ridiculous gaps inboard of the headlights that irked me to NO END.
I like the new side-scoops, too, which make the c-pillars look less ridiculously high, now it seems there is a reason for it.
Black out the roof, and this is a good looking junior alternative to the LaFerrari.
This is good stuff, and like the 360->430 update, most of the changes are distinctly for the better. (although 360CS's classic pie-plate tail lights in a mesh grille is better than the 430's tail lights sticking out of the tops of the rear fenders.)
It will be slightly sad, though... a turbocharger changes the character of the engine, and the exhaust note. No more screaming atmospheric V8 wail... and I understood all of Ferrari's reasons for not wanting to go with turbocharging, but it appears that they have to go along to keep up... everybody is turbocharging everything, it seems.

4 - because the cars that came before it are 430 and 458. Going backwards to 3 might make some people erroneously think that the car has re-trenched and isn't as good as the previous models... (yeah, I know it is ridiculous.)
-88 - probably a reference to the previous non-decade-Supercar-series (F40-F50-F60 Enzo-F70 LaFerrari) twin-turbocharged mid-engined V8 Ferrari... the 288 GTO.
GTB - a: because it is a Berlinetta (coupe), not a Spider (targa/convertible), and because it is a regular production car, not a homologation (Omologato in italian, the O in GTO) special like the previous GTO badged special models.

It will be interesting to see this, and the McLaren 650S duke it out for sub-4Liter twin turbo V8 mid-engined super-sport supremacy.
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!!

yeah you can wait or you can buy this is like the people who buy the Tesla and get mad that they came out with a new model and that there's isnt upgradable to the dual motor. You have it now or you are waiting for the new one that will be the old one at some point
![]() 02/03/2015 at 09:08 |

That's an interesting comparison. Seems to me that Ferrari owners and most Tesla owners are similar in that they are used to always upgrading to the newest, fanciest design. We can be sure that he same guy who sold his 2 year old 458 for a Speciale, is going to sell that 1 year old Speciale for a 488 GTB.

exactly what I was thinking.

Did you all see that engine? DID YOU EVEN EXPAND IT TO SEE THAT PICTURE OF JUST THE ENGINE? Ferrari owners have "good" problems. Meaning they have to deal with amazing craftmanship and cars that are iconic and remain in a pantheon other automakers wish they were in. So yeah I don't see any Ferrari 458 owners caring that the 488GTB just came out. Just own a Ferrari, thats the goal. :P
